Voice & customer contact
Nobody can tell you how many calls you missed last month.
Missed and abandoned calls don't show up on any report that crosses your desk. That's business walking away without leaving a mark, which is exactly why it's the easiest problem in the building to keep ignoring.
What we look at
Two things. The second one is where the money is.
The phone system
An aging system in the closet is a continuity problem and a hiring problem at once. Every change needs a vendor visit, and hardware that's out of support fails on its own schedule rather than yours. Cloud voice stopped being a like-for-like desk phone swap years ago. Texting from your business number, mobile apps that keep personal cell numbers private, and call data landing in your CRM are all standard now, not extras.
What happens when someone calls you
The usual situation is a system that works but measures nothing. Calls route to a group, and no one can tell you the wait time or how many people hung up. If you can't see the hang-ups, you have no way of knowing how much business is walking out the door. Getting that visibility no longer takes an enterprise budget.
Ask your provider
Four questions to put to your provider.
Ask them before the next renewal. If the answers are good, you've confirmed something useful for free. If they're not, you've found the gap without spending a dime.
The questions
- How many inbound calls went unanswered last month, and how would we know?
- What happens to a call that comes in after hours?
- Can a customer text the number they already have for us?
- Does any of this reach our CRM, or does it only live in the phone system?
The interesting work here is pulling calls, texts, and email into one queue with reporting across all of it. It was never about replacing handsets.
The risk of waiting
You lose business you never see.
An unanswered call doesn't create a ticket, a complaint, or a line on a report. It creates a customer who calls somebody else. Because there's no record of it, the problem never comes up in a review, and that's how it survives renewal after renewal.
